THE abandoned Park ‘N Ride project at KTM Serdang is being revived by a newly appointed contractor.
Work on the four-tiered parking complex is expected to be completed by mid-March next year, said Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming.
During a recent visit to the complex, Ong said the previous contractor had failed to complete the project.
“From my own investigation, I discovered that the company was listed as a cleaning service company,” he said.
The company, he added, had no previous experience in building a parking complex and its capability to complete such a big project should have been questioned.
Ong said the multi-level building would ease the traffic congestion along the Besraya Highway, especially during peak hours.
“As parking bays at the station are limited, many drivers would park their vehicles by the roadside,” he said.
The parking complex was supposed to be completed in August 2011 and equipped with CCTV cameras, public toilets, elevators and covered walkways that connect to the KTM Serdang station.
There will be about 400 parking bays, adding to the existing 100 at the train station.
Seri Kembangan assemblyman Ean Yong Hian Wah was also present during the site visit.
The project is now under the Railway Asset Corporation (RAC), an organisation under the purview of the Transport Ministry.
RAC public relations officer Ane Salfarizan Mispani confirmed that the new contractor Proconstruct (M) Sdn Bhd would complete the construction for the park-and-ride project.
“The project will cost RM4.5mil and the contractor had started work on March 17. The project is expected to be completed on time,” said Ane in a statement to StarMetro.
