TAMILS dressed in their new traditional attires and bearing trays of fruits, sweets and flower offerings, thronged several temples in Penang to usher in the Tamil New Year.

The Tamil New Year, known as Varisha Piruppu or Puthandu (new year), marks the first day of the first month ‘Chittirai’ in the Tamil calendar.
