Stolen car retrieved with help of GPS system

KUCHING: A student could not help feeling lucky that her car was installed with a GPS system.

Yesterday, around 5pm, after a haircut at Jalan Tun Jugah Commercial Centre, she found to her shock that her Proton Satria had disappeared.

A shop owner nearby told her he saw the car being driven away around 3pm.

The student, who spoke on condition of anonimity, said when she switched on the GPS system on her handphone, it appeared that the car was at Jalan Stampin Tengah.

She called her friends and together they tracked the car down. At Jalan Stampin they saw five persons coming out of a bush and hastily leaving in a Proton Saga.

“We didn’t think they were thieves so we didn’t note down the plate number of the car,” said the student who said they proceeded to search the bush and found her car there.

A police report was lodged on the incident later.
