Bumiputras in Penang who are unable to secure their housing loan from banks can apply to the Penang Bumiputra Housing Fund for assistance.
Telok Air Tawar assemblyman Datuk Jahara Hamid said the Implementation and Coordination Unit (ICU) of the Prime Minister’s Department has allocated RM14.5mil to provide loans for them to own property in the state.
“The funds and applications will be processed by Koperasi Bank Persatuan Malaysia Berhad.
“I am not being a racist, but the property ownership of bumiputras is very small compared to other races.
“Priority will be given to those buying low-cost and low medium-cost houses,” she told a press conference in Jalan Selat, Taman Selat, Butterworth, on Monday.
Among the criteria are applicants must have household income less than RM5,000 a month, only for Penang bumiputras buying property in the state and the maximum loan is RM200,000.
Jahara later presented a mock cheque to Koperasi Bank Persatuan Malaysia Berhad chairman Datuk Yusra Sabar.
Yusra said applicants could apply at any of the Bank Persatuan branches in Butterworth, Nibong Tebal and Bayan Baru.
