GUIDELINES under the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) require a minimum setback of 13m from the edge of a carriageway, said Kidex chief executive officer Datuk Mohd Nor Idrus.
He was rebutting claims by a group of Petaling Jaya residents led by the protem committee of “Say No to Kidex” that the new Kinrara-Damansara Skyway (Kidex) would be located only 5m from dwellings.
“I understand they claim that Kidex will be just 5m from a school, thus affecting the well-being of people staying nearby. We are still finalising the design of the skyway, so I am not sure where they got the figures from.
“Many people are being misinformed that there will not be any benefits. There will definitely be benefits through the reduction of traffic on residential roads as well as an increase in the value of surrounding properties.
“We are trying our best to explain the benefits and listen to the people by engaging with them through townhall meetings. The next session is scheduled on Saturday, but the venue has not been confirmed,” he said, adding that the company was also planning to set up a hotline number.
HSS Engineering executive director Datuk Kuna Sittampalam explained that although a caveat had been put on all properties within 100m to the left and right of the skyway, it did not mean all 3,784 lots would be acquired.
“This is provided for under Section Four of the National Land Code (NLC) 1965. However, it is safe to say that properties more than 60m from the middle of the skyway are safe.
“We project about 300 lots will be acquired, of which 80 are houses. The design process is ongoing and we will only know the lots that will be acquired when it is completed in about six to seven months, after which Section Eight of the NLC will be used to acquire the land,” he said.
“Traffic on local roads in Petaling Jaya will be reduced by 20% because vehicles from Puchong can take Kidex to Damansara. Without Kidex, the Damansara-Puchong Highway will be choked with traffic and things will only get worse,” he said.
