Public tip-off aids in cracking crime cases, says city top cop

KUCHING: Public tip-off has helped to bring down illegal online gambling activities here.

According to Kuching police chief ACP Roslan Bek Ahmad, his men have seized some 594 computers so far this year through 61 operations.

“We have also detained 143 suspects in connection with illegal online gambling since January, thanks to the public,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.

Apart from this, ACP Roslan said the district police would also focus on other operations going forward.

“Under Ops Cantas against gangsterism, we conducted 66 raids and arrested 225 suspects. In Ops Noda against open house gambling, we undertook 58 raids and detained 25 suspects.

“Ops Rentap, which focused on entertainment outlets, saw 91 people apprehended for possessing drugs and illegal firearms. Ops Pintu, which concentrated on houses and shoplots, saw 72 people booked and 24 items seized. In Ops Lejang, we arrested 61 people in connection with stolen vehicle cases,” he said.
