Thomas Latta, an assistant to a physician in Scotland, is said to have used intravenous (IV) saline to save a patient during the worldwide cholera pandemic in 1833.
From then on, thanks to the discovery of new drugs andmaterials, transfusions and IV fluid therapy, has grown to become part of modern medicine’s arsenal. Today, IV therapy is used worldwide.
