PENANG Wanita Gerakan will be hosting an International Women’s Day dinner on March 8 at Georgetown City Hotel in conjunction with this year’s International Women’s Day.
It will be the 12th consecutive year that the wing is celebrating this event.
Themed ‘Western Cowboy’, the dinner will include live band performances, line dancing and a ‘Best Dressed’ contest.
“We chose a Western theme this year because it is somewhat related to the Year of the Horse.
“It also portrays a more flexible take on women, proving that we can be both feminine and tough,” organising chairman, Hatini Tan Abdullah said.
Penang Wanita Gerakan chief, Rowena Yam said the event was also being held to show their appreciation for their members and long-time supporters.
“The event is also open to the public.
“So far, most of the tables have already been taken up by our members and their supporters.”
According to Yam, they kick-started the International Women’s Day celebration early this year with the One Billion Rising for Justice campaign on Saturday.
“We always start with an event before the actual day,” Yam said, adding that the theme for this year’s International Women’s Day was ‘Inspiring Change’.
“This year’s International Women’s Day theme seems to particularly suit Wanita Gerakan.
“We must make a change in our daily life and also in politics.
“Let us be the first to inspire others to make a change,” she said.
Besides the One Billion Rising for Justice campaign, Penang Wanita Gerakan is also planning to visit the Yee Ran Jing Sheh Handicapped Children Home in Bukit Tengah this Sunday as a part of their caring project.
