ABOUT 40 stroke survivors had an enjoyable cowboy-themed Chinese New Year celebration with their family members in Ipoh.
Dressed in cowboy costumes, Stroke Association of Malaysia (Nasam) Perak branch members were entertained with performances at the centre on Wednesday.
Besides the strokees, many of their family members also attended the party, which was in line with the Year of the Horse.
The event started off with “Astro-robics”, an aerobic exercise to help participants to warm up and involved simple hand gestures and movements.
Two traditional Chinese lions then greeted the members and performed a choy cheng (picking lettuce from an elevated position) ceremony.
The festive spirit became more evident when the God of Prosperity distributed mandarin oranges to the cowboys and cowgirls.
They were also all smiles when a group of Mahsa University College, Kuala Lumpur physiotherapy students performed a unique cowboy dnce for them.
At the party, ang pow was distributed to all participants and special gifts given out to lucky draw winners.
Participants also had fun watching fireworks display in the compound of the centre before a photography session.
After the tossing of yee sang, stroke survivors and their family members were treated to a sumptuous buffet, which marked the end of the celebration.
