MORE than 800 excited Penang Municipal Council (MPPP) workers received free rice packets from MPPP councillor Ong Ah Teong in conjunction with the Chinese New Year.
Ong said the packets of 5kg rice, costing RM12.25 each, were given away as a sign of appreciation to all 831 workers of the council’s Urban Services Department for all their hard work in keeping Penang clean.
“This is the third consecutive year that the council is holding such an event.
“We collected donations from all the 24 councillors and spent RM1,0179.75 to buy the packets of rice.
“We want to show our appreciation to these workers,” he said at the Town Hall recently.
