STEAMING hot mee koo (pink tortoise-shaped buns) are being snatched up fresh from the oven at a biscuit shop in Lorong Selamat, Penang.

Hoe Peng Biscuits Sdn Bhd shop assistant Lai Siew Bee, 35, said their mee koo sales had doubled from 400 a day to 800 with less than a week to go before the Jade Emperor’s birthday celebration on Saturday.
