INSTANT noodles have long been popular with Malaysians, and the latest big thing to hit the market is MyKuali Penang White Curry Noodles.
Though there is nothing special about the noodles themselves, customers attribute the success of the product to the sauce, which is almost identical to its authentic Penang counterpart.
According to cartoonist Reggie Lee, many people living in Kuala Lumpur find it difficult to buy the product in the Klang Valley and have to travel all the way to Penang just to get their hands on a few packets.
“Penangites may not find it that special as authentic curry mee is readily available in any restaurant over there, but for people in KL, this is as close as you can get to the real thing,” said Lee.
“Even in Penang, stocks run out really quickly and some places are even selling the standard pack of four for as high as RM10 to RM12.”
The retail price is RM6.90.
Overwhelming public support for the product is also evident on MyKuali’s Facebook page, which has over 14,000 likes and many favourable comments.
“The white curry sauce is really rich and manages to replicate that authentic taste and texture quite well,” said Lee, who managed to buy some when he visited Penang.
Sky Thomas Food Industries Sdn Bhd launched the product in May last year and is hoping to increase production to meet demand.
