KUCHING: Rivers will remain a major mode of transportation in Sarawak due to the prohibitively high costs of building roads in rural areas.
Infrastructure Development and Communications Minister Datuk Seri Michael Manyin said 5,000km of roads were still needed to connect 5,000 longhouses and villages in the interior, which lacked road access.
