Villager Efriden Jaafar, 40, from Felda Mempaga, Bentong who was lost in the jungle for almost 10 days found by rescue workers.

BENTONG: A villager, who got lost in the jungle for almost 10 days, was found by rescue workers and brought out to safety.

Efriden Jaafar, 40, from Felda Mempaga suffered a broken right leg after he accidentally slipped and fell down.

He appeared dehydrated and weak but otherwise healthy.

He had earlier entered a hilly jungle area near Taman Bentong Makmur to search and collect rattan. However, along the journey he lost his way and was trapped inside without food and water.

Luck was on his side as a team of about 10 trekkers had entered the area for a jungle-trekking outing.

One of them heard shouts for help and alerted the others who then contacted the police and fire personnel.

A search and rescue operation was mounted before they found Efriden by a stream and brought him out.

Efriden told rescue personnel that he drank water from the stream to stay alive and prayed daily to be rescued.

A waiting ambulance sent him to the hospital for prompt treatment while his family members had been notified.
