PUTRAJAYA’S Precinct 8 Football Club emerged as champions of the Central Region leg after carving out a 1-0 victory against the Selangor Indian’s Association team in the recent Mamee 1Malaysia Under-19 tournament in Seremban, Negri Sembilan.
In the third- and fourth-place playoff, the Klang Football Association team won 3-2 on penalties against CIMB-YFA Bintang Muda of Kuala Lumpur.
The Central Region pool of 16 teams were made up of four each from Negri Sembilan, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, and were selected by the respective state football associations. Along with the winners and runner-ups from four other regions, 10 teams will make their way to the grand final in Kuala Lumpur next month where the champions will bag RM15,000 along with the tournament trophy.
Pahang’s youth football team and Terengganu’s state sports council team emerged as the Eastern Region’s champions and runners-up respectively, while emerging from the Southern Region were champions Masjid Tanah FC and runners-up SMK Seri Kota from Malacca.
The event will also see YR1M donating RM10 to charity for every goal scored during the regional legs. The team with the most goals scored at each region will have the opportunity to select a charitable cause to receive the Jaringan Emas donation.
A total of 58 goals were scored during the Central Region tournament and the team with the most goals scored were Precinct 8 FC with nine. The Academy FC were the top scoring team in the Southern Region and will also get to select a charity of their choice.
The total number of goals scored for both East and South regions was 145. The organisers announced that given the fantastic performance by the teams, YR1M raised the donation to RM1,000 for Pahang’s youth football team’s charity of choice in the Eastern region.
The winners of the regional league received a trophy, prize money of RM5,000 and medals. The second, third and fourth placed teams received prize money of RM3,000, RM2,000 and RM1,000, respectively, along with medals.
