TAN Wei Liang could not believe his ears when he heard that he had won the ‘myPenang|Unforgettable’ Photography Contest organised by Penang Global Tourism (PGT).

The 21-year-old University Sains Malaysia pharmacy student, who captured the mesmerising beauty of the sunrise at the Chew Jetty, said the news came as a shock to him.

“I thought my votes were low as there were others with more votes than me.

“Photography is a form of hobby for me. I found out about the contest through Facebook and decided to join the competition as there were not many participants then,” Tan said.

Runner-up Jonathan Khoo Woon Hwee, a freelance videographer, said he entered the contest three days before it closed.

“I was eating in Teluk Kumbar with my family when I took the opportunity to take a picture of a fisherman casting his net into the sea with the nice sunset as the backdrop and decided to send in my picture,” Khoo said.

Tan won a return flight ticket to Chiang Mai while Khoo won a return flight ticket to Bangkok courtesy of Thai Airways International in the recent contest.

Present at the prizegiving ceremony in Penang were PGT managing director Ooi Geok Ling and Thai Airways International general manager Parinee Chanthrakupt.
