MISS Universe Malaysia 2014 Sabrina Beneett had to overcome several physical, mental and emotional challenges before clinching the title at Setia City Convention Centre in Setia Alam recently.

The reality TV series, The Next Miss Universe Malaysia 2014, chronicled the journey taken by contestants at SP Setia’s Beauty Mansion prior to the gala finale.

Beneett, from Perak, conquered her fear of water, height and the stage and impressed the judges with her intelligent answers during the question-and-answer session to beat 15 other finalists.

Former title-holder Carey Ng put the tiara on Beneett’s head to symbolise her crowning as Miss Universe Malaysia.

First runner-up was Lalitha Monisha from Sabah, second runner-up was Kausalya Ida from Sarawak and third runner-up was Lyn Lim from Penang.

“I am feeling on top of the world,” said the 23-year-old psychology and communications student.

“I am excited and I cannot believe that I have a crown on my head.

“It is not easy to be a pageant holder,” explained Beneett. She added the contestants had to be tough and courageous.

Kausalya, who lost her mother to cancer, aims to work with cancer societies while Lim, an animal lover, hopes to advocate animal causes and Beneett wants to help rape victims.

The competition received 3,000 entries, and the judges were Reshmonu, Sazzy Falak, Carmen Soo, Andrew Tan, Wan Ahmad Wan Abas, Miko Au and Dr Daniel Yap.

Former Miss Universe Malaysia 2003 Elaine Daly, acted as pageant adviser and mentor to the contestants.

During the event, the audience was entertained by comedians Kuah Jenhan and Harith Iskander.
