LAUGHTER and chatter of children filled the air at Palong Coffeehouse Kinta Riverfront Hotel and Suites during a Christmas party for orphans from Anning Home and New Hope Ipoh.
“My favourite festive season has to be Christmas and I am happy that we got invited to this party here,” said Au Kum Kim, an orphan from Anning Home.
The nine-year-old also said he was excited and happy to have received presents from the Meru Valley Kiwanis Club members during the gathering on Christmas Day.
“I love getting presents. I also love it when we get invited to parties like this to celebrate Christmas outside the home,” he added.
Au was among 40 orphans from the two homes that were treated to an afternoon of scrumptious food at the hotel coffeehouse and also fun and games.
This was the first time that Kinta Riverfront Hotel and Suites organised a Christmas party for the needy children, with the help of the club.
Kinta Riverfront Hotel and Suites marketing communications coordinator Khoo Ebel said the event was a way for the hotel to contribute back to society.
“The main objective of this event is to let the orphans have a chance to enjoy the festive season like other children and also to create joy and memories for them,” said Khoo.
The orphans, aged between seven and 12 years, had fun taking part in the five mini games organised by the club members.
Anning Home principal Loke Wai Loon said orphans from the home were very fortunate as they had been invited to many Christmas charity events this year.
“This is the sixth day the orphans from our home are celebrating Christmas, and I am starting to get worried because of all food they have been consuming,” Loke said in jest.
