JULAU: Dorothy Inching Alun, 28, was in upbeat mood after receiving rubber seedlings and fertilizer from Julau MP Datuk Joseph Salang.
Met after the ceremony on Friday, she said such a contribution from the government helped in a great way to lift the standard of living of rural folk like her.
“I am happy to be chosen to receive the rubber seedlings, including fertilizer. This will certainly help my family’s income,” said Dorothy, whose rubber estate covers a size of 100ha.
There are adult rubber trees, which have successfully produced latex, while others are still growing.
Salang, who is also 1Malaysia Sarawak Advisory Council chairman, said 100 rubber planters had been chosen to receive the two items.
Each of them was given 500 rubber seedlings and RM500 worth of fertilizer.
“They were chosen by the Julau Farmers Association based on their dedication and hard work as volunteers of Barisan Nasional in the last parliamentary elections.
“As volunteers, they did not ask for any allowance so we are giving them this two items to show our gratitude to them,” he said, adding that with the seedlings, they could start planting next year.
Also at the ceremony was Deputy Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Alexander Linggi.
