AmBank organises ‘Back to School’ charity programme in Johor

KLUANG: AmBank Group through its sports club, Kelab AmBank Group (KAG) organised the “Back to School” charity programme for 80 children and youths from schools around Kluang, Johor.

The charity event brought joy and smiles to the children as they were brought on a shopping session at the Pacific Hypermarket and Departmental Store to buy school uniforms, backpacks, stationery and shoes. Later they were all presented with goodie bags followed by a sumptuous lunch at Prime City Hotel in Kluang.

AmBank Group also donated three sets of desktop computers to Sekolah Agama Ladang Bukit Benut as part of the Back to School charity programme which the students will be able to fully use for educational purposes.

This charity programme falls under the AmKasih Programme which is the Group’s platform for its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) sustainable development initiatives. The AmKasih Programme focuses on “reaching out to the community” and serves as an umbrella for all AmBank Group’s CSR efforts to help the community.

“We are honoured to organise today’s “Back To School” charity programme with children and youths from Kluang, Johor. This is our last stop for the programme which has been carried out throughout the month of December 2013. We have been conducting similar sessions in Kuala Krai, Kelantan, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Kuching, Sarawak, and Subang Jaya, Selangor,” said Syed Anuar Syed Ali, President Kelab AmBank Group, and senior general manager, Group Corporate Communications and Marketing, AmBank Group.

AmBank Group will also be sponsoring spectacles for the children with eyesight problems after a comprehensive eye screening session by Tun Hussein Onn National Eye Hospital (THONEH). The spectacles will be distributed a month later by an AmBank Representative as well as a representative from THONEH.

Syed Anuar stressed that projects such as these are important in bringing awareness for the children’s needs and also help foster closer relationships between KAG members and the less fortunate, in line with the club’s objective of contributing to society.

“The AmBank Group continuously plays a CSR role for the community at large, irrespective of race, creed or religion as we contribute to the sustainable development of the community within which we operate. This approach has been and will continue to be the mainstay in our approach to community care programmes. A project such as this helps to meet our objective of playing an effective corporate role as a socially responsible corporate citizen.”
