THE Budimas Charitable Foundation (Budimas) recently launched the Budimas Education Charity Fund (BECF) followed by an auction of five limited edition and premium books at Hugo’s On 6, Best Western Premier Dua Sentral, Kuala Lumpur.
The Budimas Education Charity Fund aims to inculcate the love of reading and a thirst for knowledge in young members of society.
Its mission is to provide children with the opportunity and means for a good education.
This year, BookXcess selected Budimas Rural Library Project as the beneficiary of Red Readerhood — a CSR programme that drives book donations to underprivileged children.
To initiate the collaboration, BookXcess donated a total of five premium and limited edition books that were auctioned off during the launch. The sale raised RM53,000, all of which will be channelled to the Budimas Education Charity Fund for its plan to build libraries in rural areas.
Under the royal patronage of the Seri Paduka Baginda Raja Permaisuri Agong, BECF’s other plans for the near future include outreach activities to promote the use of libraries and reading to impart long-term benefits of proficient reading skills to obtain knowledge and to underscore the pleasure of leisure reading.
The foundation also plans to open one library next year and three more by 2015, to encourage ownership of libraries through storytelling, painting sessions, movies, and to empower and encourage learning and reading.
BookXcess along with OCBC, will contribute 1,000 books respectively towards Budimas Rural Library Project, which aims to collect a total of 16,000 books to equip the rural libraries.
As Red Readerhood’s sole beneficiary, Budimas will be given a special space in this year’s Big Bad Wolf Book Sale.
This will enable Budimas to promote its Rural Library Project and garner support from the customers to donate the remaining 14,000 books or more.
The Big Bad Wolf Book Sale is returning this year from today to Dec 15 with 230 hours of non-stop shopping, this time carrying the theme “A Pirate Never Sleeps”.
