MALAYSIA’S special envoy to China Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting has called for entrepreneurs from China and Malaysia to help increase the level of trade and investment between the two countries,
Ong was speaking as the guest of honour at the recent 2013 Malaysia-Guangdong Bilateral Enterpreneur Council Forum and delivered his keynote address to a large group of entrepreneurs from Malaysia and Guangdong.
He also introduced the recently signed Five Year Programme for Trade and Economic Corporation between Malaysia and China and called for entrepreneurs from both countries to increase the level of investment and to achieve a US$160bil (RM514bil) target in bilateral trade,
The forum was hosted by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Guangdong (CCPIT Guangdong), Malaysia-Guangdong Chamber for Investment Promotion (MGCIP) and Maycham Guangdong. The forum is one of the key annual events organised in Guangdong to facilitate the interaction of entrepreneurs from Malaysia and China.
MGCIP and Maycham Guangdong president Datuk Lim Hock San said that MGCIP would play a bridging role and provide a platform for the entrepreneurs from both countries to network. The Five Year Programme for Trade and Economic Corporation has a target of US$160bil in bilateral trade in five years time, an increase of 60% over the current figure of US$100bil.
The forum focused on enhancing the cooperation in industrial parks and facilitating bilateral investment.
Setia Land (China ) Ltd chairman and board member of the Malaysia China Business Council Datuk Beh Hang Kong updated the audience on the development of the Malaysia-China Industrial Park in Qin Zhou, GuangXi, the Mei Zhou High-Tech Industrial Park and Shao Quan Zhen Jiang Industrial Park to highlight the opportunities for investment.

CCPIT Guangdong Chairman Chen Qiu Yan thanked Ong for the importance the Malaysian government places in Guangdong and reiterated the CCPIT’s commitment to servicing the Malaysian and China’s business community in Guangdong, and contributing to the goal of enhancing the bilateral trade.
Ong in his key note address stressed on the importance of the Five Year Programme for Trade and Economic Corporation, as this is an important document guiding the economic development between Malaysia and China.
Following the state visit by Chinese President Xi Jin Ping recently to Malaysia, bilateral relations between Malaysia and China has been upgraded to full strategic partner level from strategic partner level, and thus opening up a new chapter for bilateral relations and cooperation.
Ong said, apart from governmental support and policies, creative business and trade projects between entrepreneurs from both countries play a crucial role in ensuring the achievement of the target set by the five year programme.
