JOHOR BARU: Hundreds of visitors thronged the first day of the Popular Mega Bookfair here in hopes of grabbing the best bargains on a wide range of books offered.
Singaporean Syakirin Rizal, 13, said that she came with her parents and siblings to look for good bargains and selection on English and Malay novels.
”We decided to take a trip here just to visit the fair, as we all love reading and I am hoping to get my hand on the latest Hunger Games novel,” she said when met at the fair last Thursday.
”The price of the books are very reasonable and some were even discounted up to 70%, which allowed me to choose more books,” Syakirin said.
Another visitor S. Athieswaran, 37, who works as a technician, said that he was hoping to look for books suitable for children below the age of six years old.
”My wife and I decided to try our luck finding for quality children’s book for a good price as these day such books could go up to hundreds of ringgit,” said the father of three.
Meanwhile, Popular Book Co. (M) Sdn Bhd business development general manager Siew Sheue Liang said that the fair was expected to see some 120,000 visitors throughout the 11 days.
”We have allocated a stock of over 1.5mil books for the fair this year to ensure that customers especially those who come from far are not disappointed.
”For the next 11 days, we will offer 200 featured products daily, at more than 50% discounts,” he said.
He added that a line up of other activities will also be conducted including mystery gift redemption, colouring contest, cooking demonstrations, and even sessions with local writer.
The expo is being held at Danga City Mall expo hall from Nov 21 to Dec 1, from 10am until 10pm.
