Cautious optimism for pepper growers

KUCHING: Players in the pepper industry, especially the smallholders, have been reminded against being too complacent amid the strong global price growth of the commodity.

Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Datuk Douglas Uggah Embas noted that the shortfall of supply against growing demands had contributed to the current strengthened price of around US$5,500 (around RM17,600) per metric tonne for black pepper.
