Dwindling numbers worrying Situation prompts urgent need to protect hornbills at Piasau Camp

KUCHING: The urgency to better protect Piasau Camp in Miri Division and its famed residents, the Oriental Pied hornbills, is greater now than before given that the bird’s population has dropped.

Malaysian Nature Society Miri Branch chairman Musa Musbah said the camp used to have 15 Oriental Pied hornbills recorded in a study, excluding the two latest juveniles, fondly known as Ah Kaw and Amoi, that were hatched middle of this year.
