TWO of Pacific West’s scrumptious products received accolades in the prestigious 2013 Malaysian Institute of Food Technology (MIFT) Product Innovation Awards.
Its Salmon Puff won a gold medal while the Salmon in Mustard Sauce grabbed a silver, in a ceremony held in Subang Jaya, Selangor, recently.
Judging was based on sensory attributes, technological innovation, nutrition and wellness, consumer appeal, packaging material and design, novelty and uniqueness.
The potential for global reach as well as compliance to third party certification like Halal, HACCP and ISO were also factors taken into account.
Pacific West director Saw Lip Teik said the award-winning treats were among a range of six ready-to-cook salmon products introduced in Malaysia and Singapore recently.
The others were the Smokey Salmon, Japanese Crumbled Salmon Goujon, Tempura Salmon and Salmon Burger.
They are currently available in major stores and supermarkets nationwide, such as Giant, AEON Jusco, AEON Big (formerly Carrefour) and Tesco, among others.
“The brand is one of the few ‘Made in Malaysia’ success stories, having become a global name for its frozen seafood that was certified sustainable by the Marine Stewardship Council,” said Saw in a statement.
He said the company’s products had successfully penetrated foreign markets such as the United Kingdom, France, South Africa, New Zealand, Denmark, Brunei, Lebanon and Cyprus — and were enjoyed in millions of households for their high nutritional content, superior quality and convenience.
They are made in a manufacturing plant in Butterworth, Penang, equipped with cutting-edge equipment and a cold storage facility of 5,000 metric tonnes.
Other notable products include the Salt and Pepper Squids, and Chilli Mango Prawns — which were bestowed Silver Awards for the Best New Appetiser Product in 2012 and 2013 respectively by the British Frozen Food Federation.
