KUCHING: Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) will continue to expand the activities of its Art and Design faculty, said the university’s rector Datuk Dr Jamil Hamali.
Together with the Sarawak Art Museum, final-year students of UiTM’s Art and Design faculty will display over 50 unique works of art during a week-long ReqaSeni Gallery featuring illustrations, paintings, sculptures and more.
“To increase interest in art, we have held the gallery for the third time running, with the last one held in March,” Jamil said at the opening ceremony of the gallery.
“The public can come and see the fruits of UiTM students’ hard work throughout their course of study, and to give the students a chance to display their artwork for all to see.
“The Art and Design faculty has continuously organised many successful activities throughout the years, including an Art and Design Bazaar last July as well as taking part in the Rainforest World Music Festival Bazaar for five years straight.
“Many works of art created by our students have been sold to buyers from all around the world during the festival, indirectly promoting UiTM to the international stage.
“I thank Sarawak Museum Department director Ipoi Datan for giving us a chance to work together with the museum to bring art to the public here at the Art Museum,” he said.
Jamil added that more programmes would be organised in the future by the faculty, such as a planned academic trip to Osaka, Japan at the end of the year.
The gallery was opened by Jamil together with Welfare, Women and Family Development Minister Datuk Fatimah Abdullah and Ipoi.
