SIBU: An odd-job worker was sentenced to 18 months in jail and two strokes of the rotan by the Magistrate’s Court here for outraging the modesty of a six-year-old girl in August.

Hafid Abdul Rahman pleaded guilty to the charge filed under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which provides for a jail term of up to 10 years with or without fine and whipping upon convic- tion.

Hafid had committed the offence in the middle of August in a house in a plantation in Belaga.

The victim’s mother lodged a police report on Sept 7 and this led to the arrest of the accused on the same day.
