Filipino band to rock crowd at Miri music festival

KUCHING: Jazz rock band Bembol Rockers from the Philippines will be rocking it up at the inaugural Asia Music Festival in Miri on Oct 4 and 5.

Formed in 2006, the band comprises Marc Liwanag on guitar and vocals, Lakshmi Kirtan das Ramirez (upright bass and vocals), Archimedes Archie Lacorte (tenor and alto sax) and Steven Hamilton Vasquez Mora (drums).

The music they create is what sets them apart as they combine both jazz and rock with a dash of Filipino pride.

They also love the classics and want to encourage a renewed interest in the golden fifties among the younger generation.

Above all, they want to be remembered for music that is positive and fun.

Other bands that have confirmed their appearance in the festival are VSTAR featuring Kamal Musallam (Korea), Anthony Dassan Yen Party Band (India), Orkes Soesah Tideor (Indonesia), Foxy Girls (Indonesia), Boy Thai Band (Thailand), Tritha (India) and Fakhrul Razi (Brunei).

Malaysian bands and singers include Melissa Francis, Starlet Band, The Mountain Wind Band, Hevance Band and Sarawak’s own Bob from Akademi Fantasia.

Entry tickets are priced at RM30 for adults and RM15 for children or students aged three to 18.

Tickets are available from all Sarawak Tourism Board offices and Visitor Information Centres in Kuching, Miri and Sibu.
