MIRI: The construction of the Permyjaya-Pujut link interchange road is expected to complete by the end of next year or earlier.
In giving this assurance yesterday, Assistant Communications Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin said: “The overall progress of the road construction is 3% ahead of schedule. If everything goes smoothly, it will be completed on time or earlier.”
Lee, who was talking to reporters during a site visit, further said: “Once the new road is completed, residents of Tudan, Permyjaya and Vista Perdana can reach the town centre without having to pass through heavy traffic along the Miri-Pujut highway.”
Construction started in December last year, but slight delay was experienced in the initial stage because many private lots involved meant that compensation had to be satisfied.
It is understood that nearly RM10mil was paid in compensation. The 4.5km road links Permyjaya to Pujut Corner and it includes a 150m concrete bridge across Sungai Miri, two new traffic lights and two road junctions.
According to Lee, the Public Works Department is currently working on a proposal to upgrade the whole link road from single to dual carriageway.
