Artist draws inspiration from fish wrapped in leaves for 'Semat' sculptures

KUCHING: To most people, fish wrapped in leaves would be just something to eat, but to artist-cum-lecturer Awangko Hamdan Pengiran Arshad it is a source of inspiration for works of art.

His new sculptures, titled “Semat”, are based on this traditional Melanau way of preparing fish, particularly the sticks that secure the leaf wrapping.
