Designer bag label holds preview of new travel and lifestyle collections

INTERNATIONAL travel, business and lifestyle accessories brand — Tumi — has unveiled in Penang its new Fall/Winter 2013 collections, which are inspired by the glamourous and exciting heyday of globe-trotting in the 1960s.

Though imbued with classic touches, the selection of handbags, business cases, day bags, luggage bags, totes, backpacks and travel accessories, is designed with modern jet-setters and urbanites in mind.

Tumi’s regional brand manager Tan Yin Yin said: “the design philosophy caters to the demands of today’s road warrior, without sacrificing the elegant, old-world charm that travel was once defined by.”

She pointed out that the men’s Fall 2013 pieces, split into Astor, Ticon, Alpha Bravo, Beacon Hill and Virtue collections, pair utilitarian appeal with classic styling and quality, retro inspired craftsmanship.

Meanwhile, the luxurious women’s selection celebrates a cosmopolitan lifestyle with pieces that sport polished, textured leathers and subtle detailing in the Villa, Carlisle and Carli collections.

The Voyageur and Vapor collections sport bold colours and floral prints instead.

These collections, numbering some 50 pieces, along with a further 20 from the Holiday collection for Winter 2013, were previewed by the Malaysian and Singaporean media in an exclusive session at the Hard Rock Hotel Penang recently.

Tumi Malaysia brand manager Mok Pei San said the Fall 2013 range would be available in its stores at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, Suria KLCC, The Gardens Mall, and Gurney Paragon Mall within this month.

“The Holiday collection will hit the shelves in December,” she added.

The media entourage was also invited to a spanking new 1,300sq ft store on Level 1 of Gurney Paragon Mall (in front of the information counter) later that day.

Tan said that the time was right for the brand, which first hit Kuala Lumpur in 2008, to finally make its eagerly anticipated arrival in Penang.

“We’ve had many customers from the northern region going down to the Klang Valley to buy our products, so the opening of this store makes it convenient for them,” Tan reasoned.
