MIRI: Communications Assistant Minister Datuk Lee Kim Shin has declared the RM115.5mil Pujut 7-Kuala Baram road upgrading project completed.
Started in 2011, the 14.4km road stretching from Pujut 7, Permyjaya until the Asean Bridge in Kuala Baram has been the talk of the town, especially those residing in Permyjaya, Desa Senadin, Tudan and Senadin.
“We are proud to say that with the completion of the whole project, the traffic has became smoother and, most importantly, traffic congestion has been reduced,” said Lee, who commissioned the final Senadin-Curtin traffic-light junction yesterday.
He said the smooth ride had not only made the lives of the locals easier, it encouraged more Bruneians and Sabahans to come here.
“Notably, it has indirectly improved businesses here and promoted the city’s tourism industry. It is indeed a revenue earning road.”
He added that during a joint inspection by the Public Works Department and contractors on Thursday, some minor defects were found and would require repairs, and the installation of street lighting in Senadin-Kuala Baram area would be completed by the end of this month.
Phase 1 of the project was the upgrading of the Pujut 7 roundabout, which included converting it into a traffic cross junction. It was completed in July last year.
Thereafter, Phase 2, which involved the upgrading of Tudan-Kuala Baram road, improvement of five existing traffic light junctions and refurbishing of 11.2km of existing road was completed early this year.
The final phase was the completion of the two additional traffic lights in front of SJKC Chung Hua Tudan and Senadin-Curtin junctions respectively.
