First-timers sign up after hearing about heritage walk from seniors

SCHOOLMATES Faith Murugesu, Ammar Muzhaffar and M. Kobiram, all 14, are all eager to take part in their first Starwalk event this year.

Ammar said they decided to join the event after hearing about it from their seniors in school.

“They said it was really nice to take part,” said Ammar.

Faith said walking through the heritage enclave would be a unique experience while Kobiram wanted to take part because the walk promotes good health.

The three signed up for the non-competition category.

They were among the students of SMK Hamid Khan who signed up for Penang Starwalk 2013 during a roadshow at the school yesterday.

A similar roadshow also took place at SMK Jelutong.

The Star circulation executive Soon Chun Keat was present at both schools to receive the registration forms from the eager students.

Registration is open at Penang Times Square (information counter) from 10am to 10pm daily.

The public can also sign up at the Star Northern Hub in Bayan Lepas from 9am to 5pm daily.

Penang Starwalk 2013 is divided into 10km competitive and 7km non-competitive categories.

Entries for the competitive category have closed.

Closing date for the non-competitive cate-gory is Aug 30 or when 17,000 people have registered.

The walk will be flagged off at Birch House in Penang Times Square from 6.30am on Sept 15.

It is organised by The Star and the Penang Amateur Athletic Association.
