IN CELEBRATING the culinary traditions of Kelantan, The Chicken Rice Shop recently introduced its own version of Ayam Percik Kelantan as its star attraction for Ramadan and Hari Raya.
The dish, created exclusively for The Chicken Rice Shop by local celebrity chef Datuk Chef Ismail Ahmad, is available until Sept 1.
Most Malaysians would be familiar with ayam percik or grilled chicken in coconut sauce, which originated from the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia but has traversed the country, with variations to its recipe.
Today, it is common, especially for those in the Klang Valley and key urban centres like Johor and Penang, to see ayam percik being drenched in a red coconut sauce.
Chef Ismail’s Ayam Percik Kelantan has kept to the original Kelantanese recipe passed down from generation to generation. Most noticeable is the rich and creamy white sauce, blended with traditional herbs and spices and drizzled on top of perfectly grilled chicken.
While the dish is based on an authentic recipe, Ismail has added his personal touch to ensure that the Ayam Percik Kelantan at The Chicken Rice Shop is tantalisingly unique.
TCRS Restaurants Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Wong Kah Lin said: “All Malaysians, regardless of race, religion or social status, have grown to love ayam percik.
“The Chicken Rice Shop has always been known as a place where all Malaysians can come together to enjoy a delicious, authentic and wholesome Malaysian meal.
“That is why The Chicken Rice Shop and Ismail, who is our brand ambassador, have agreed that Ayam Percik Kelantan is an ideal dish for us to celebrate a harmonious Malaysia.”
During the launch of the dish, Wong also showcased the evolution of The Chicken Rice Shop’s restaurant design and décor over the years, culminating in the brand’s latest new look for its restaurant at The Garden’s.
The Chicken Rice Shop will be embarking on a makeover for all its restaurants nationwide based on this new look.
“Just like our menu, we want to ensure that our restaurants are kept fresh, with new and exciting elements that will keep our customers coming back for more.”
The interior decor of each restaurant will now feature a more family-friendly and comfortable ambience with beautifully crafted tiles adorning parts of the wall. There will also be an alfresco dining-inspired section for those who prefer a more “open” dining experience.
The Chicken Rice Shop’s Ayam Percik Kelantan is available ala carte for RM11.50. There are also various combo meals available that caters to between one and five diners.
Combo meals start from only RM16.99.
In addition, The Chicken Rice Shop has also created a special drink, Selasih Rose Lemongrass, to complement the new dish.
