JOHOR BARU: Those busy purchasing food items at the buka puasa bazaar here may be in for a royal surprise as the Johor Ruler will be making visits to various bazaars in the state throughout the Ramadan period.
Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar made his first stop at the Larkin Bazaar at around 5pm on Wednesday and bought a host of kuih and food items to the delight of surprised traders and visitors.
When questioned if he had a favourite dish, the Johor Ruler explained that the food he bought was not for himself but for his employees at the Istana.
“I am currently on a diet and am buying these food for the guards and others working for me,” he said adding that he had lost 20kg but was aiming to lose another 10 more before August.
Sultan Ibrahim said that this was in line with the annual Kembara Mahkota expedition where he travels around Johor to get closer to the people.
The Johor Ruler said that he found that many people were very excited, as it was the first day of the fasting month.
“I hope that people will do good especially during this holy month.
“All I want to see is for my people to be united,” he said adding that he would be making similar visits to bazaars in other districts throughout the month.
The Johor Ruler, who has a locomotive licence, helmed a train from Johor Baru to Kluang at on Thursday and visited a bazaar in Kluang.
Before leaving, the Johor Ruler also advised traders and visitors to maintain cleanliness especially at the bazaars.
“Of course there will be a little rubbish when stalls are set up but I hope that both visitors and traders will do their part in keeping the place clean,” he said.
