INSTITUT Teknologi Perak student V. Tinakaran might not be able to spend Father’s Day with his parents in Penang, but he’s making the best of it that weekend – participating in the Ipoh International Starwalk 2013 with his friends.
“My family is in Penang and it is difficult to go home sometimes due to my classes.
“This year my friends are excited about taking part in Starwalk and after hearing their enthusiasm, I decided to join for the first time,” said the 21-year-old mechatronics student.
Tinakaran said he was looking forward to an exhilarating time with his friends. The walk will be flagged off at Stadium Indera Mulia on June 16 at 7am.
Institute senior business development manager Stan Lee said the walk not only enabled students to exercise, but also complemented their learning experience.
“Our institute not only focuses on the academic aspect but also provides programmes for those preferring skilled learning as hands-on experience. The walk therefore reflects the institute’s emphasis, as students not only spend time learning in the lecture halls, but also learn from the community through events such as Starwalk,” he said.
Ipoh International Starwalk 2013 is jointly organised by Star Publications (M) Bhd and the Ipoh City Council, with the cooperation of the state Education Department.
The walk is divided into the 10km competition Malaysian category, 10km competition International category (open to all with qualifying time below 50 minutes) and 7km non-competition category.
The platinum sponsor for the walk is Yes, while the silver sponsors for the walk are Public Gold, Magnum, Pallas, F&N, MILO, Salonpas and BP Healthcare.
