Good response for virtual travel fair

THERE is a growing trend towards online travel buys among Malaysian consumers as demonstrated by the strong increase in online visitors for Sota’s fifth Virtual Travel Fair (VTF) recently.

According to Creative Advances Technology Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Rohizam Md Yusoff, the response was amazing as they experienced almost twice as many daily visitors and a triple digit growth of 131% in travel package enquiry value, as compared to the 4th VTF that was held last September.

“In every VTF we organise, we continue to see a growing momentum of participation and increasing interest from both travel providers and travel buyers.

“In this VTF, we have more than 4,000 travel packages being offered as well as accommodation offered by 150,000 hotels worldwide.

“We had more than 70,000 online visitors during the 17-day fair and approximately RM14mil worth of travel package enquiries were generated through the VTF,” said Rohizam.

The theme of the 5th VTF was Great Deals, More Choices.

Some of the destinations that have received a lot of attention and travel enquiries from travel buyers in the VTF were locations such as Tioman, Australia and New Zealand.

Three lucky SOTA members also won prizes in the form of a one-night stay at the Anggun Boutique Hotel in Kuala Lumpur worth RM340 each simply by registering their interest to join the VTF.

According to Phoon Sook Chan, one of the winners, “I am thrilled as I did not expect to be selected as the winner.”

Rohizam added that the intention of organising the bi-annual VTF is to revolutionise the way people buy travel offerings in a travel fair.

Instead of having to jostle with crowds and get caught in traffic jams, travel buyers can browse and purchase a wide variety of discounted domestic and international travel packages online anytime and anywhere.
