I REFER to the article by StarMetro dated April 8 with the title ‘Unwary travellers become victims after midnight’.
In this article, a victim told his story where he was ambushed with dozens of taxi touts who threatened him to pay higher taxi fees.
I strongly agree with his statement where he warned the public about the touts.
This has become a serious problem that should be looked into by the authorities.
I was wondering how much profits did they (taxi touts) gain in one night by just threatening the desperate travellers. Luckily, I have not experienced this problem.
Instead of waiting until the morning to get transportation, most travellers would take the taxi to get to their destination.
This situation should not be tolerated.
We should greet our “guests” sincerely and guide them while they are in the country, not take advantage of them. I pity those travellers who are unaware and taken for a ride by taxi touts.
The Government must take action against taxi touts because they are an embarrassment to the country.
What if there was a woman who is desperately lost or has problem reaching her home in the middle of the night with little money? Every citizen is responsible for protecting Malaysia’s image, so they should not take advantage of these tourists who are desperate and willing to pay higher fees.
Let’s not allow more people to become a victim of taxi touts.
