Featured acts: The homegrown extreme music scene is in rude health. It also helps that live venue Rumah Api is the place that carries on the good fight. The genres at this gig – grindcore, metal to post punk – may be violently varied but the outsider music spirit is rampant with this community. Bands on stage include Behind The Death, Kiss The Fallen, Blood Legion, Death Is A Lie, Tongue Twister, Heteredox, Sacwrath, Knucks, 66 Roads, Wynken Delirium, Kolbenfaust and Deumuseth.

Bihzhu (featuring Narmi)

Featured act: Jazz pop singer Bihzhu and indie strummer Narmi plan to make it a special Monday night out. The rare treat is catching Bihzhu backed up by her full band. The Penang-born singer, who has been writing new material for her second album, is geared up for two sets (45 minutes each) with her live band, featuring guitarist Faz Aznam, bassist Koh Keng Hui, drummer Omar Ibrahim and clarinet/keyboardist David Ling. Featured guest is Narmi, who is set for a solo spin as well as a couple of duets with Bihzhu.

Godspeed You! Black Emperor

Featured act: Canadian post rock outfit Godspeed You! Black Emperor makes its long-awaited KL debut. Presented by Soundscape Records, this promises to be the gig of the month. The corporation-shunning band’s Allelujah! Don’t Bend! Ascend! album was widely heralded as a stirring return for the long-running group. It was the first new full length from the nine-piece band since Yanqui U.X.O. was released 10 years ago. Apart from concerts in Japan, China, Taiwan and Hong Kong, Godspeed You! Black Emperor’s KL show (a 90 minute set) is the only stop it will make in this region. Ray Cheong presents Rojak Sessions

Featured act: Back from his tour of duty of innumerable gigs, playing opening act for the likes of Aussie guitarist Tommy Emmanuel and backing British singer Pixie Lott, even, singer-songwriter acoustic slap-funk-New Age guitarist Ray Cheong will once again curate the legendary Rojak Sessions, the platform that gave birth to countless bands and solo acts since 2010. Like it’s name and reputation, Rojak Sessions continues in its grand tradition of unearthing musicians from a variety of genres – everything from folk, blues, funk, rock, R&B ... and the kitchen sink. The first in this new instalment features funk-soul singer Gregory Ramanado, folkie Jes Ebrahim, alternative rocker Darren Teh and New Age acoustic guitarist Reeve Jia Ming. So, leave your tofu, boiled egg, cucumber, turnip and, prawn and coconut fritters behind because it’s all already available at Rojak Sessions.

Shaneil Devaser EP launch

Featured act: Alternative rocker Shaneil Devaser gets the party rolling for his self-titled EP launch. The 25-year-old, who is also the frontman of Crossing Boundaries, is set to push out the five tracks from his EP as well as other material from his various projects (if you hassle him enough). Apart from an acoustic set by Shaneil, there will be a host of guest acts, including Ray Cheong, Kaya, TiC, Psytrus, Ariff AB, INSTAKE, Free Deserters and Markiza & Peter Brown.
