GEORGE TOWN: A man was jailed eight months by a magistrate’s court here for criminally intimidating a coconut shop owner.

Abdul Aziz Shaik Alludin, 37, pleaded guilty yesterday to threatening the 53-year-old owner with injury at 7.15pm on Nov 19 last year at the latter’s shop in Jelutong here.

According to the facts of the case, Abdul Aziz had taken a sickle from the shop and gone to a restaurant next door where he ate chicken.

Abdul Aziz, who was said to be drunk, said he did not have money to pay for the chicken.

He was then told to leave the restaurant. He swung the sickle and uttered offensive words before leaving and going back next door where he argued with the coconut shop owner.

He then challenged the owner to a fight. A struggle ensued during which the sickle fell from Abdul Aziz’s grip.

Abdul Aziz, who works as a driver for a coffee shop, was represented by Clement Ong while DPP Mohd Khairul Fairuz Rahman prosecuted.

In appealing for a lenient sentence for his client, Ong said Abdul Aziz regretted his actions.
