RESIDENTS of Taman Melur and Taman Saga, Ampang are unhappy that waste water is flowing into the drain near the housing area instead of being channelled into the Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd (IWK) sewerage system.
Neighbourhood Committee pre-sident in charge of safety Abd Naim Safar, 65, said the IWK drainage pipe was not connected and he had complained to the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) but that no action was taken.
“IWK also came here in February and discovered that there is no water under the manhole covers.
“I hope IWK will check the drainage system as I suspect that there is a leakage somewhere in the system.
“If that is the case, the waste water will be seeping into the earth under the houses,” he said.
Taman Melur Residents Ass-ociation president Lau Kai Kong, 50, said there should be a connection between the pipes under the manhole covers and IWK’s drainage systems.
“Now, all the waste water is coming out at the drain and we can sometimes smell the stench coming from there,” he said.
Teratai constituency public complaints bureau chief Ben Liew said if the condition was left unrepaired, homeowners will face a backflow of sewage from their toilets.
“If the piping system is not repaired, a landslide may occur. There are also signs of soil erosion around the drain,” he said.
Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd (IWK) communications department manager Shahrul Nizam Sulaiman said a sewage pipe was installed in the area in 1994.
“We urge the developers to fix their pipes to the main sewage pipe,” he said.
Hata Holdings Sdn Bhd property developer director Chang Siew Hong said they would discuss the problem with IWK to find a solution.
