Of sacrifice, heroes and recognition

THREE things crossed my mind when I watched the simple ceremony to commemorate the 206th Police Day celebration in Miri yesterday — sacrifice, heroes and recognition.

For most Malaysians of the X and Y generations, the security forces, both the police and the armed forces, and their sacrifices of the past while defending the country were just stories of bygone eras, that is, until the Suluk insurgence in Sabah early this month.
