PRASARANA Integrated Develop-ment Sdn Bhd (Pride), operator of the Gombak LRT multi-storey parking complex, is extending its offer of free parking at the complex until March 1 following requests.
“We will only start charging after March 1,” said Pride chief executive officer Rudyanto Azhar.
Pride is a strategic business unit of Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana).
“We have received overwhelming response from our customers, hence our decision to extend the free parking, which was originally until yesterday (Feb 15).
“In view of the many requests we received from our passengers, we decided to extend the free parking until the end of the month,” said Rudyanto, adding that the complex had an average of 950 users every day.
After March 1, LRT commuters who park their cars at the multi-level parking complex at the Gombak LRT station will be charged RM4 per entry per day.
Non-LRT users, on the other hand, will be charged RM3 for the first hour and RM1 for the subsequent hour, and part thereof, with a maximum daily charge of RM15 on weekdays and RM20 on weekends.
“The parking system is operational only via MyRapid Card, the Prasarana stored value card which integrates with the LRT and monorail ticketing system.
“Hence, non-LRT users would also need to have MyRapid Cards to enter the complex. Our system has the technology to read whether you took the LRT or otherwise for accurate parking fee charges,” Rudyanto said, adding that vehicle owners and the public could buy MyRapid Card from any LRT and monorail stations.
Prasarana sales personnel would also be stationed at the entrance of the parking complex on weekdays during peak hours (between 6.30am and 10.30am) until Feb 28 to assist those who want to buy the card. Alternatively, they can buy these at the station’s ticketing counter.
“The purpose of building the park-and-ride facility at the Gom-bak LRT station is to promote ridership on the LRT among Gom-bak and nearby residents and help ease traffic congestion in the city centre.
“The parking charges are fair, taking into consideration the provision of 24-hour security guard services, CCTV and emergency management systems, exclusive parking facilities for women drivers and the physically challenged, passenger lifts and car park guidance system within the complex,” said Rudyanto.
Built at a cost of almost RM30mil by Prasarana, the complex, which is connected directly to Gombak LRT station, provides 1,260 parking bays, including 158 bays exclusively for women drivers and 24 bays for the physically challenged on the ground floor.
