THOUSANDS of people thronged Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir’s official residence for the Chief Minister’s Chinese New Year open house.
People from all walks of life began to pour in as early as 1.30pm although the event was scheduled to start at 3pm.
Addressing the guests, Dr Zambry said he hoped the Year of the Snake would bring everyone more luck and prosperity.
“I sincerely hope the state and country will continue to enjoy peace and harmony.
“Barisan Nasional always values the meaning of peace and we are determined to bring the people together,” he said.
Dr Zambry also stressed that the state had seen much development in the last four years.
“You see various developments being brought to the state.
“There will be more developments to come,” he said, adding that the turnout was an encouraging sign that the people still supported Barisan.
Dr Zambry and his wife, Datin Seri Saripah Zulkifli as well as other dignitaries also handed out ang pows to children.
Guests were treated to a sumptuous buffet serving fried noodles, cendol, poori with curry chicken, cordial drinks and other local favourites.
Serenading guests at the do was a choir dressed in various cultural costumes, and there was also performances by local artistes.
Among those present were state executive councillors Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon, Datuk Shaarani Mohamad, state assembly speaker Datuk R. Ganesan, Dr Zambry’s advisers Datuk Chang Ko Youn and Datuk S. Veerasingam.
International actress and former Bond girl Datuk Seri Michelle Yeoh was also present with her family.
Yeoh told journalists that she would always try to make it to Dr Zambry’s open house on her trip back home.
“My visits to meet up with my family are always short trips.
“I’ve known Dr Zambry and his wife for quite some time and this is the fourth time I’ve attended his open house,” she said.
