Axis offers up digital options for smaller installations

AXIS Communications, sees strong growth potential for its Camera Companion, a surveillance solution for smaller camera installations.

Small and medium enterprises (SMEs), petrol stations, pharmacies, boutiques and retail businesses, that are demanding professional systems for increased safety and security, have displayed interest in the surveillance system since its launch in Malaysia last year.

“The Camera Companion has received positive reception due to its easy installation, HDTV image quality and access to video from the cameras via the Internet,” said country manager Nafis Jasmani.

In a recently conducted survey amongst retailers in the UK, Ireland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway, 80% of the 700 traders, who own 40,000 stores, reported that cameras reduce shrinkage.

The survey is carried out by the Centre for Retail Research, a research and analysis company, on behalf of Axis Communications.

Access to cameras via the Internet, lower overall costs, and the fact that cameras may be used to enhance store processes, for instance when it comes to improved personnel planning and better exposure of goods, are some of the advantages that were mentioned.

“With Axis Camera Companion, we are driving the technology shift from analog to digital video surveillance in small installations,” Nafis said.

Axis recently reinforced its presence in Malaysia with the opening of its new office in Kuala Lumpur to accommodate staff growth.

The company currently has a staff strength of more than 120 across Asia Pacific with 420 partners in Malaysia.

Axis’ products ranges from network cameras, video management software and to a full range of audio and video accessories.

“We are witnessing an increase in digital surveillance with significant growth in Asia and Axis is well-poised to ride this wave with its IP-based network video solutions offerings,.

“The Malaysian market is driven by higher security awareness among the public and private sectors.

“The advantages of digital video surveillance compared to anolog such as superior image quality, easy installation and integration, improved security, scalable and flexible solutions and contributions towards a lower total cost of ownership also give companies access to a productive and cost-effective means to surveillance,” Nafis explained.
