RESIDENTS in the surroundings of Taman Bandar Ampang Jajar near Butterworth can now hold various healthy activities, thanks to a recreation park set up by the Seberang Prai Municipal Council.
The construction of the recreation park was recently completed.
It included a riverside recreation, children’s playground, public toilets, boardwalk, car park and attractive landscaping.
Council president Maimunah Mohd Sharif said that previously, the site was an open landfill where rubbish was dumped in a disor-derly manner but it was later converted into a sanitary landfill in 1988.
“The council beautified the area before the Taman Bandar Ampang Jajar recreation park was set up,’’ she said in her speech.
The event on Sunday was held in conjunction with the opening of the bicycle track at the park.
The bicycle track was officiated by Penang Agriculture, Agro-based Industry, Rural Development and Flood Mitigation Committee chairman Law Choo Kiang.
Maimunah said parents could also bring their children for cycling activities along the 770m-long track.
She said the project at Taman Bandar Ampang Jajar was a joint effort between the council and the LP Mountain Bike Club under their corporate social responsibility programme.
Law, who is also the LP Mountain Bike Club adviser, said Penang had the most cyclists compared with other states.
