SECURITY at Puspakom inspection centres has been beefed up and stricter regulations are in place to prevent touts from taking control of operations at the premises.
Following a report in StarMetro on Wednesday, “Touts in control’’, Puspakom is acting to prevent touts from taking advantage of its booking system for vehicle inspection.
Measures are also in place to prevent touts from making enblock bookings, as alleged by vehicle owners who are unable to get appointments.
In a statement to StarMetro, Puspakom chief executive office Mohammed Shukor Ismail said touts would also find it difficult to enter its centres in Padang Jawa, Cheras, Shah Alam, Wangsa Maju and Bukit Maluri.
He said the booking system for these centres would be controlled by Puspakom’s headquarters and no longer by the centres.
“This will prevent the alleged block-bookings by agents,’’ he said.
Shukor also said more security personnel would be stationed at the centres to prevent unauthorised personnel from entering.
With immediate effect, only vehicle owners or representatives with valid documents would be allowed into the centres.
As for walk-in clients, Shukor said Puspakom staff would inform them about making prior bookings for inspections over the phone.
He said Puspakom also fixed the time between 4pm and 7pm daily for reinspection of vehicles that failed the initial inspection.
“However, those who wish to come another day will have to call our centres for appointments,” he added.
