Baru: Blog not managed, affiliated or linked to Pakatan Rakyat

KUCHING: Pakatan Rakyat leaders have distanced themselves from Suara Pakatan Rakyat, a blog which they assert has nothing to do with the Opposition.

The state PKR chairman Baru Bian said the blog was “masquerading as a Pakatan Rakyat blog”.

“The blog tried to tarnish Temenggong Datuk Kanang Langkau’s reputation, so let me make it most clear that this blog is not managed, affiliated or linked to Pakatan Rakyat in any way,” Baru said in a statement to The Star.

The PKR state chief was asked to comment on a blog called Suara Pakatan Rakyat, which featured an article “Kanang bukan hero sebenar” (Kanang not a real hero) written by an unnamed author.

The article led to an uproar online and off line. Condemnation flowed quickly from the public, Barisan Nasional members and Pakatan Rakyat supporters.

“The late Kanang was a true hero in every sense of the word. He has served not just Sarawak but also Malaysia as a whole. He has sacrificed for all of us, for the nation. He defended us. We in Pakatan, especially Sarawakians, will forever remember Kanang,” Baru said in the statement.

He called the misleadingly named blog “irresponsible”.

“It is only trying to speak on behalf of Pakatan. This blog is all about misinformation. Do not fall into the trap of believing it.”

Meanwhile, state PKR information chief Vernon Kedit also hit out at the blog.

“Allow me to clarify that the article was not written or issued by Pakatan Rakyat and the website it appears on is not Pakatan Rakyat’s official website. It is one masquerading as Pakatan Rakyat. The real Pakatan Rakyat website is,” he said in a statement.

Contacted over the phone, Vernon said Pakatan leaders were aware of the fake website “for some time”.

“The way in which the site disseminates misinformation is very subtle. It aims to confuse the readers.

“I suspect that this blog is being managed by irresponsible parties, wanting to tarnish Pakatan’s reputation and confuse the people.”

Vernon said Pakatan members would be lodging police reports against the article’s author and the people behind the blog.

PKR adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Baru are expected to address the matter during a press conference in Kuching today.
