BAU: Five friends managed to escape tragedy when the Perodua Kancil they were in plunged into Tasik Biru here.

The driver, known only as Ujang from Matang, put the blame on the absence of proper signage at the T-junction on the old Tasik Biru road.

“I’m not from Bau so I am not familiar with the place here. When I reached the T-junction of the poorly lit stretch, I thought there was a road in front. It didn’t look like a T-junction to me.

“There was no sign or barrier so I drove on and straight into the lake,” the 22-year-old told reporters as his car was being towed up from the lake on Christmas.

Ujang said he and his friends were lucky all the windows were wound down prior to the mishap.

He was not a good swimmer and thanks to his friends, he was saved from possible tragedy.

Another mishap occurred around 3am yesterday.

A motorcyclist rode straight into the lake but thankfully, he suffered minor injuries.

Residents nearby are up in arms over the problematic spot. They hoped that the relevant authority would act quickly to avoid further accidents or serious injuries or even deaths.
